Good Ol' Punk Rawk / Country Twang: A Diary Of How This Posting Came To Be

So it's a bleh Wednesday and as I stare outside my 17th floor office window, I try to remember what band I clicked upon in the myspace universe the day before.

Ah yes, Suck La Marde (which roughly translates to Suck the Shit), that's where it started. As I'm sure some of you know, I've been on a serious franco bend for the last year or so. Throughout the highschool years, I had Caféine, who has since become Xavier Caféine. Then in post highschool Les Marmottes Aplaties, who are now defunct. And as of the last year and a bit, it's been all about Malajube (and as of late, one of their member's side project Jacquemort). That renewed my interest in the franco scene. Since then, I've been obsessed with the Montreal music scene.... from a distance. Notable bands/singers that have scored pretty high on my musicdar are: Les Vulgaires Machins, Galaxie 500, Pierre Lapointe, Jean Leclerc (formerly known as Jean Leloup), Polipe, Fonojône, La Déscente Du Coude, The Sainte Catherines. Alright, this last band brings this posting back to relevance land. The Sainte Catherines are a hard core punk band, that sing in english. They're signed to Fat Wreck Chords and are touring this summer as part of a FAT line up. They're playing the Pheonix on July 24th. That's great, but what I'm more interested in is their Country Folk Punk rawk gone acoustic side project called Yesterday's Ring. They are playing the Bovine the next day, I'm going! Are you?

Also, if you want to own any these on CD, most of them are on the Dare to Care Records and you can order them (on the phone!) through this amazing little store called Sound Central (the guy who owns it is anglo, so don't worry about doing the french thing).

There it is. That was long just to say that Yesterday's Ring is awesome and that they're playing a show soon.

Also, seriously re-diggin' Van Lear Rose

Franco-Country Side Project Anyone?

Peace,
O
